Q: What is a homestudy?

A: A homestudy is a in-home assessment (details below) by a licensed adoption agency or licensed social worker. As part of the adoption process, you will be required to have a homestudy. If you live outside of Texas, you must usually have your homestudy done by a licensed agency in your state. Some states, such as New York, allow licensed social workers (not affiliated with an agency) to do these studies. Since we are licensed in Texas, your homestudy must not only meet your state's requirements, but Texas' as well. Listed here are items that must be covered in homestudies in order to meet Texas requirements. These must be covered in any homestudy of a couple adopting through Texas regardless of where the couple lives. The following information must be included in all homestudies, homestudy updates and subsequent placements conducted for Texas adoptions.
