Dear Expectant Mother ,
This is, no doubt, a time of change and uncertainty for anyone who must prepare for the decisions you face... we at the ASA Counseling Department will do all we can to help you understand the adoption process and the options and implications involved, and we urge you to use the services we offer, and to pursue our private counseling or group counseling sessions as you see fit.

This will also be a time of learning for you. We want to make sure that you understand that you do have alternatives to selecting adoption as a plan for your child's future. Basically, these choices include:
(1) parenting the child yourself, either with or without a partner;
(2) placing the child in the custody of a family member;
(3) extended or long-term foster care, or
(4) abortion, depending upon your stage of pregnancy;
Our counselors will be more than happy to help you explore any of these options, as well as providing more information on the prospect of adoption.

Since the adoption decision is a legal one, you may wish to seek outside legal counsel if you feel you need to do so. The agency can explain your rights and the legal process to you, but the agency's attorney is not able to act as your personal attorney, as you know, and we want you to feel free to consult anyone you feel is necessary in order to fully understand the decision that you make for your child 's future.
